Construction of the Boardwalk at Colman ReservationOn Labor Day Weekend in 1998, Marty Pyne coordinated the construction of the boardwalk at the Colman Reservation, with the help of Troop 37 scouts and other volunteers. This was the first Eagle project done in cooperation with the Attleboro Land Trust. Marty did an outstanding job engineering and carrying out this project. He was assisted by land trust board member J. Johnson (shown in the picture below). Substantial contributions to the project were made by two Attleboro businesses: Bullock's Cleaning Service and Morse Sand and Gravel. Also helping to make this project possible was a $1000 grant from the Fields Pond Foundation. The 177' boardwalk utilizes a unique design that is intended to last a long time without requiring maintenance. Sets of three 6"x6" pressure treated timbers rest on custom concrete footings. They are secured by 10" galvanized lag screws that pass through steel loops embedded in the concrete. The timbers are separated by 1" rubber spacers to prevent rot.
