A Walk in the Woods with ALT Board Member Melissa Riley

In this video, shot at Larson Woodland and the Colman Reservation, Melissa Riley introduces our new publication for kids and their families.

Our new publication was created in collaboration with Oak Knoll Wildlife Sanctuary and the Attleboro Conservation Commission.  It was funded by a generous donation by Al Walker in memory of his dear friend Barbara Corrigan.

Boardwalk Project Underway

A key step has begun in the development of walking trails at the Nickerson Walking Woods Preserve. On May 25, volunteers began work on constructing four boardwalks that will cross wetland portions of the new Outer Loop Trail that is being developed. The project is being coordinated by Greg Fine to fulfill the community service requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout. The work will continue on June 8, 9, 15, and 16. If you would like to help, let us know at attleborolandtrust@gmail.com. While the work is underway, the parking lot and the trails may be temporarily closed.

Keeping Attleboro Green

The Attleboro Land Trust is proud to preserve the pristine wetland meadow shown above. It is the 48-acre Anthony Lawrence Wildlife Preserve, donated by Anthony Lawrence in 1994. Additional gifts by Donna Madden in honor of her uncle Peter Halko, and by David W. Parfitt, have expanded the total acreage protected in the above view to 57 acres. The Hill Roberts School on Roy Avenue is at the bottom of the photo. Newport Avenue is at the top left. The Seven Mile River can be seen snaking through the meadow. The photo is from the online OLIVER GIS mapping system.

What's a Site Steward?

photo: Charlie Adler

A site steward is a volunteer who "adopts" one of the Attleboro Land Trust nature preserves, individually or with a group, such as a group of neighbors, church group, youth group, or fraternal organization.

Duties of a site steward:

  • Walk the property on a regular basis
  • Pick up litter
  • Report vandalism
  • Help with routine trail maintenance
  • Assist with special projects

If you are interested, contact us, or show up at the Site Steward Training on June 1 (see the Calendar above for details).

June 8, 9, 15, 16
Boardwalk Construction continues at Nickerson Walking Woods Preserve, led by Eagle Scout candidate Greg Fine of Troop 3. Additional volunteers are needed to help clear temporary supply paths, to help load and unload all-terrain vehicles for transport of materials into the site, and to help with boardwalk construction. This is a big project and many hands make light work. Starting time on June 8 is 9:00 am. If you can help, let us know at attleborolandtrust@gmail.com.
